TWO-DAY MUSIC FEST AT BHARATIYA

VIDYA BHAVAN, BENGALURU

on 17th & 18th December 2017
Bengaluru: Parveen Begum Smruthi Educational Trust has organized a two-day music fest at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru, beginning December 17. The trust has been established by well-known Hindustani vocalist and Sarangi player Faiyaz Khan in memory of his wife, Parveen Begum. This is the fourth annual programme organized by the Trust. The Trust also imparts training in Hindustani classical music in the Gurukul system.

Classical musicians of repute have performed under the aegis of the trust and this year too, the aficionados will not be disappointed.

About the artistes:
DILSHAD KHAN  (SARANGI)
Dilshad Khan hasperformed in all the major music festivals and concerts in India like Savai Gandharva in Pune, Saptak in Ahmedabad, Shankar Lal music festival in Delhi etc.,. He has performed in many prestigious venues in world like Royal Albert Hall, London, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Canada, Holland, USA, UAE, Muscat, Bahrain, Europe, etc.
2. HIRANMAYEE SHARMA- HINDUSTANI VOCAL
Hiranmayee Sharma, who started giving public programmes at the age of 6, is a disciple of renowned classical vocalist and Sarangi artiste Ustad Faiyaz Khan. She has also learnt devotional music from her mother, Smt. Padma Adiga.
Hiranmayee has so far given more than 200 concerts which includes devotional music, light music, semi-classical and Hindustani classical performances. Hiranmayee has been honoured with ‘Kalashree’.

3.PANDIT RAJEEV TARANATH  (SAROD)
Internationally acclaimed performer, Rajeev Taranath is one of the world's leading exponents of the Sarod. A distinguished disciple of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, his performances masterfully combine the depth and rigor of the tradition of Hindustani classical music with an inspired imagination and emotional intensity.

Hailed a prodigy in Hindustani vocal music, he had been earlier trained by his father Pandit Taranath and other eminent musicians and was a concert and radio artist before he was 20.

Rajeev has toured extensively as a performer in India, Australia, Europe, Yemen and throughout the U.S. He has also composed

music for several nationally and internationally honored Indian films. He is the recipient of the Indian Government's highest award in the arts, the Sangeet Natak Academy Award for 1999-2000. In 1998, he received the prestigious ‘Chowdiah Award for Music’ from the Government of Karnataka in India for excellence in the field of instrumental music. He has also received the Sangeet Nritya Akademi Award in 1993 and the Karnataka Rajya Prashasti in 1996.

4. RASHID MUSTAFA THIRAKWA AND SHARIQ MUSTAFA (TABLA)
Initiated into tabla playing at the age of four, Shariq Mustafa obtained a strong grounding and honed his skills under the tutelage of his illustrious father - Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa.
This young talented tabla player is vibrantly keeping his tradition alive by developing unique styles of tabla playing. He has performed for his the President of India had the opportunity to perform in the Sangeet Natak Academy Music Festival, Delhi Classical Musical Festival and Youth Festival. He recently performed at Southbank Centre for the London Jazz Festival, UK.
Shariq Mustafa has accompanied eminent performers such as Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Sri Kamal Sabri,ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas and has collaborated with other musicians of different genres as well.He has received various awards in recognition of his accomplishments.
5. SARFARAZ KHAN (SARANGI)
Sarfaraaz Khan is born into a family Kirana Gharana musicians. His grandfather Ustad Abdul Quader Khan Sahab was a Sarangi Maestro. Safaraaz’s father, Ustad Faiyaz Khan is also a renowned Sarangi player and vocalist.

He has given concerts for The GangubaiHangalMusic Foundation and the Dharwad Children’s Festival ( Bharati Sangeet Vidayalaya), Ustad Abdul Kareem Khan Music Festival (Miraj), SIFAS Music Foundation, Singapore, etc.
6. USTAD FAIYAZ KHAN - HINDUSTANI VOCAL
Ustad Faiyaz Khan was born in Dharwad into a family of musicians from the Kirana Gharana. His father Ustad Abdul Quadar Khan was a staff artiste in A.I.R (Dharwad).

Faiyaz khan started his training under the guidance of his father in both Sarangi and vocal at the age of 6. At the same time, he learnt tabla under the able guidance of tabla maestro and Guru, Pt. Basavaraj Bendigeri and Ustad Mammulal Sangaunkar. From an early age, Ustad Faiyaz Khan accompanied accomplished musicians like late UstadBale Khan, Pandit Basavaraj Rajguru and many more stalwarts. Ustad Faiyaz khan  has accompanied on sarangi with Dr Gangu Bai Hangal, Pt. C.R. Vyas, Dr. Prabha Athre to name a few. He has also worked with famous music directors like A.R. Rahman, Rajan-Nagendra, Vijay-Bhaskar, Hamsalekha among others.

Ustad Faiyaz Khan is an accomplished performing artiste and has travelled across the globe. He has performed at prestigious venues in Malasiya, Dubai, China, Singapore, Germany, France, Europe, Canada. He is amongst the few musicians in India who has the distinction of being recognized as a high-caliber vocalist, instrumentalist and an extremely meticulous and inspiring teacher imparting the knowledge and keeping alive the finer aspects of the traditions of the Kirana Gharana. He is actively involved with Institutions like the Bharteeya Sangeeth Vidyalaya (Kochi) that are seriously working on promoting pure classical music. He also runs his own Music Academy, Parveen
Begum Smruti Music and Education Trust in Bengaluru, where students are trained in Hindustani classical music in the traditional Gurukul system.

Ustad Faiyaz Khan has been honoured with Pandit Puttaraj Krupabhushan Samman, national award of All India Radio, Bangalore Music Academy award, Kala Kaumudi award among others.
