of M. Mariyappa Bhatta



M. Mariyappa Bhatta (1906) son of Govinda Bhatta, native of Kabaka village in Puttur Taluk of Dakshina Kannada District has studied the Dravidian Languages widely, apart from writing Dictionaries.

Known as Kittel of Karnataka, he served as Kannada professor in Madras University.

Famous for his Tulu- Kannada Nigantu (Tulu Kannada Dictionary), Abhinavamangarajana Nighantu, Jataka Tilakam, Chhandassara, Vishnu Purana, Vardhamana Purana etc, Mariyappa Bhatta got many awards including award from Karnataka State Goernment and Kannada Sahitya Parishad.

On Sunday 10th August 2008, Dravidic Studies of Mariyappa Bhatta (Edited by Dr. Sharada Jayagovinda, will be released in Bangalore by Dr. Kamala Hampana at Suchitra Hall, Near Post Office, Banashnakari 2nd stage Bangalore.

Prof. Basavaraja Kalgudi will speak on the book and Prof Hampa Nagarajaiah will preside over the function. Time: 10.30 am. The programme was organised by Prof. M. Mariyappa Bhat Samsmarana Samithi Chennai and Suchitra Kala Kendra Bangalore.
