New Delhi/Lahore/ Kabul: A strong earthquake rocked North
India, Pakistan & Afghanistan killing atleast 180 persons and injuring
hundreds.
According to reports the epicentre of the earthquake was in Hindukush
Mountain region in north Afghanistan and has been clocked at 7.5 on the Richter
scale.
People ran out of buildings as earthquake jolted in many
parts of India including Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Uttara Pradesh,
Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Reports from Pakistan say that at least 180 people died in
earth quake. Several building fell and several developed cracks. In Afghanistan
more than 12 children died in stampede in a school after earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake had a
preliminary magnitude of 7.5 and occurred at a depth of 212 kilometers (130
miles) with its epicentre in the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan. It
struck at around 2.40 PM, sending ripples across several states like Jammu and
Kashmir, Delhi, the National Capital Region (NCR), Punjab, Uttarakhand and
Rajasthan
Rescue official Latifir Rehman says 21 people were killed
and 200 were injured in various parts of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
province in Monday’s earthquake. Another official, Fiaz Khan, says at least 8
people were killed and 70 injured in the Bajur tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
