‘Yugal’
an evening of Kathak Duets
Bengaluru: Internationally
acclaimed dance duo Nirupama-Rajendra will present “Yugal,” a dance concert of
Kathak duets on January
27. Abhinava Dance Company, Bengaluru, has organized the event as part
of the 33rd Kinkini Festival.
The sequences featured
are: " Abhang ” where the duo explore the poetry of great saints of
Maharashtra who have expressed devotion to Lord Panduranga Vittala.
In "Teentaal’ they
reveal beauty of Nature & Culture of India.
"
Vimaanayaana " is a dance that presents Rama & Sita's return journey
from Lanka to Ayodhya where at each point Rama recalls the various incidents. A
Tarana in Mattataal concludes the program.
Praveen D Rao has
composed the music.Renowned Hindustani vocalist, Faiyaz Khan who has composed
the Tarana will play the lead singer for this program accompanied by Trilochan
Kampli and Gurumurthy Vaidya on the tabla & pakhawaj , Shruthi Kamath on
sitar, Sarfaraaz Khan on Sarangi,Shivalinga on flute & Ashwin Prabhath on
Padanth.

The dancing duo
Nirupama-Rajendra have dedicated themselves to the Kathak dance for the past 25
years. They are a multifaceted personalities and have evolved themselves as
dance directors, guru and producers as well. They have created an indelible impression
on the Kathak form of dance and enjoy patronage across five continents. The duo
has introduced more than 150 dance choreographies and have been conferred with
several prestigious awards.
“Yugal” will be held at 7.30 pm at
J.S.S. Auditorium, Jayanagar on January 27. The
performance is free for all.
