O. Panneerselvam revolts
against Sasikala
Chennai: Tamilnadu took one more trun on Tuesday, 7th February 2017 in
unfolding late night drama chief minister O. Panneerselvam finally spoke up
against All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary
V.K. Sasikala.
After
spending nearly 40 minutes meditating in front of the late chief minister J.
Jayalalithaa’s memorial at around 9 pm on Tuesday, he said, “I was forced to
resign from the Chief Minister’s post.”
“If people
want I will recall my resignation,” he said.
“Anyone (not necessarily Panneerselvam) who works
for the betterment of the party and the state should lead. And, if required, I
would fight all alone to save the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said
“I rejected the chief minister’s chair. But they
(AIADMK) compelled me saying that people would accept me as Amma had appointed
me twice in earlier occasions.”
He added: “Now they have embarrassed me and the
Chief minister’s chair”. Panneerselvam
began addressing the press by saying, “I’m going to say some truths. My
conscience has been pricking me.”
Explaining
the incidents that happened during the hospitalization of late chief minister
J.Jayalalithaa, he claimed that Jayalalithaa had said that E. Madhusudhanan
should become the general secretary of the AIADMK.
This
comes in at a time when a lack of clarity continues to loom over Tamil Nadu
politics.
Sasikala, who
was appointed as the general secretary of the ruling party on 31 December, was
elected as legislature party leader by the AIADMK legislators on Sunday, 5th
February 2017. The party had said that she will soon become the chief minister
of the state.
However,
with the Supreme Court on Monday saying that the verdict in a disproportionate
assets (DA) case in which Sasikala is an accused will be delivered within a
week, there has been a strong buzz that the governor Vidyasagar Rao is
considering the legal aspects before administering the oath of office to
Sasikala. Sasikala is the second accused in the DA case after Jayalalithaa.
Earlier, former speaker P..H..
Pandyan alleged that Jayalalitha was pushed at home before she was admitted to
hospital. He also said that Jayalalitha told him that Shashikala should not
become the General Secretary of the Party or Chief Minister of the State.
On Monday, 6th February 2017 in a hurriedly called press conference doctors of Appollo Hospital including British Doctor Richers Pealay rejected the roomers that there was an conspiracy behind Jayalalitha’s death. They said that Jayalalitha died due to failure of multy organ failure and cardiac arrest.
